A little time for self-care, a friendly game with colleagues and a simple message of thanks from students can go a long way in making teachers feel appreciated. Marikina Polytechnic College brought these moments together during its Teachers’ Month 2026 celebration.

Held under the theme “GURO: Kabalikat sa Paghubog ng Bukas, Ginagawaran ng Pasasalamat at Kalinga,” the monthlong celebration included wellness activities, recreational events and student tributes. One of the activities was Faculty Wellness Week: Pampering Sessions, organized by the Gender and Development Office in partnership with the Human Resource Management Office. Held at the Employees’ Lounge at the Academic Building from October 19 to 21, 2026, the sessions offered free manicure, pedicure, foot spa and haircut.

On October 29, 2026,  faculty members and non-teaching personnel spent the afternoon for a bowling and billiards activity at Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall.

“More than just recreation and games, these activities serve as a venue to strengthen relationships, enhance mental health, and promote overall wellness among our educators,” said GAD Director Prof. Maricel L. Divina.

Students also found their own ways to express their appreciation. The Office of Student Affairs, headed by Director Rialita A. Villareña, worked with the MPC Faculty Association and selected student organizations to organize activities under the theme, “Salamat sa Paghubog: Pusong Nagtuturo, Buhay Nababago.”

A “Wall of Thanks for Our Amazing Teachers” invited students to leave personal messages, while video greetings prepared by student organizations, led by the Future Teachers Association, added another expression of gratitude. Program Chair for Doctorate Studies Dr. Reah C. Suniga said one of the most fulfilling parts of teaching is seeing students experience breakthroughs in learning and grow over time. But she also acknowledged the less visible demands of the profession, including administrative tasks, extensive documentation and emotional exhaustion.

She said wellness activities offer teachers a chance to recharge and feel recognized, adding that supporting educators’ well-being can help strengthen morale and improve classroom instruction. “Thank you for the treat, MPC!” she said.

Prof. Marcela M. Bungag shared a similar sentiment, saying that watching students learn, complete their projects and work towards their goals makes teaching worthwhile.  For her, the pampering sessions were a gesture that made teachers feel “valued, appreciated, and cared for as members of the academic community.”

Prof. Michelle Ponce said the greatest reward comes from seeing students overcome difficulties and discover what they are capable of achieving. Messages from former students and seeing them succeed long after graduation, she said, make the demands of teaching worthwhile.

Students also shared how much their teachers’ guidance has meant to them.

Hanamichie Mindeoro, a first-year Bachelor of Library and Information Science student, thanked MPC faculty members for continuing to guide students and provide learning opportunities, even when they could not always be physically present on campus. He specifically recognized Head Librarian Angelee Domingo and Prof. Lou Davin Naval for helping him and his fellow students pursue their chosen program.

“Thank you po sa mga gabay at sa mga turo niyo po sa amin,” he said.

For John Paul O. Bitara, a fourth-year Bachelor of Industrial Technology student majoring in Drafting Technology, teachers have played an important role in helping his batch meet academic requirements while preparing for life after college. He thanked Prof. Rolly Atienza for giving them the opportunity to participate in a job fair as part of their culminating activity. “Naging gabay po kayo para makuha po namin ‘yung mga kinakailangan namin at makaka-graduate po kami on time,” he said.
