“MPC aims to recognize the students’ experience credentials and offer a flexible learning pathway.”

This was the central message of Dr. Ma. Arra B. Santos-Bava, Vice President for Academic Affairs, during her keynote presentation at the pilot implementation of Flexible Learning and Experience Credentials (FLExC): An Institutional Lifelong Learning and Micro-credential Program held on February 20, 2026, at the  Function Hall, Academic Building.

During the technical meeting held on February 12, 2026, College President Dr. Rene M. Colocar stated that this initiative provides credit equivalency for prior learning, work experience, and industry-specific certifications. He also underscored that the micro-credentialing program offers a concrete solution to the “time-poverty” often faced by our college students who are balancing work and studies.

“By converting proven skills into academic credits, we expect to shorten the residency period for degrees, allowing students to graduate faster and enter the professional workforce with validated credentials,” Dr. Colocar said.

Gerlyn Israel, a third-year BTVTED student and part-time catering staff, expressed her excitement about the initiative. “Ang galing kasi ang daming maki-credit!” Ms. Israel said, noting that her industry exposure can be formally recognized as academic credit.

Mylyne Salle, who has prior teaching experience, commended the micro-credentialing program for its uniqueness in the current educational landscape.

“Na-amaze ako sa idea, dahil kahit paano mababawasan ang subjects na kukunin at mas mapapabilis ang graduation ng mga bata. Ito pa lang ang alam kong eskwelahan na may ganitong programa,” Ms. Salle said in an interview after the hybrid session moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Menere R. Nasiad.

The event concluded with a forward-looking message from Community Extension Services Office Director Lester Abaratigue on behalf of Dr. Glen R. Mangali, Vice President for Planning, Research, Extension, Linkages, Quality Assurance, Alumni Relations and Publication.

“The success of this pilot challenges us with a greater responsibility: to institutionalize micro-credentialing with integrity, sustainability, and excellence. Let this be the foundation of MPC’s expanded academic architecture – responsive, inclusive, and globally competitive, “ Director Abaratigue said.

Anchoring this vision into official policy, the FLExC Manual has been approved by the Commission on Higher Education through Board of Trustees Resolution 42, s. 2025. The pilot implementation of FLExC: An Institutional Lifelong Learning and Micro-credential Program marks a strategic step for the MPC as it transitions toward becoming the Future National TVET University of the Philippines. It is strategically designed for second and third-year LEX alumni, TESDA National Certificate holders, and working students or educators who can provide proof of relevant industry experience or documented teaching credentials.

The application and submission of requirements will run from February 23 to March 8, 2026. This will be followed by a portfolio review and oral validation by a faculty panel, with final credit postings expected by mid-April. Interested students are encouraged to submit their documentary evidence through the official MPC FLExC Google Form (scan QR code) or send an email to the Office of Lifelong Learning at lifelonglearning@mpc.edu.ph should you have inquiries.#
