March 10, 2025 – MPC President, Dr. Rene M. Colocar, together with VPPRELQAP Ronald Allan S. Mabunga, VPAA Ma. Arra B. Santos, and VPAF Joemel V. Bautista warmly received Marikina City’s 2nd District Representative Stella Quimbo; former 2nd District Representative Miro Quimbo; DepEd Secretary, Sen. Sonny Angara; Sen. Aquilino Martin “Koko” D. Pimentel III; and Special Envoy to the United Arab Emirates for Trade and Investments, Ms. Kathryna D. Yu-Pimentel during the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the first midrise school building in Marikina City yesterday, March 10, 2025 at the Marikina Polytechnic College grounds.
The ceremony kicked off with a short program where the key persons in this milestone accomplishment were introduced and recognized. The project was made possible through the initiative of Teacher Stella as she is fondly called by Marikeños. Sen. Koko Pimentel congratulated Marikina City for being one of the three places in the country who were lucky to have been granted fundings for a midrise school building, the two other places being in Cebu and Cavite. Sen. Sonny Angara, DepEd Secretary, was also happy about this momentous event since this would mean achieving greater heights for the students of Marikina Science High School, staking the possibility of another Diosdado “Dado” Banatao, a Filipino inventor credited for inventing the first microchip still being widely used in computers up to now.
Ret. Principal Larry De Guzman, the first principal of Marikina Science High School, also gave a short message where he expressed his gratitude citing that finally Marikina Science High School which used to be the high school department of the Marikina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), now Marikina Polytechnic College, will now have a building. He reminisced that when he first spoke about the possibility of building a new structure for Marikina Science High School upon its establishment, he was told that it was not possible since the lot was owned by MPC. Since then, several talks were done on this but all fell through. Until, Teacher Stella.
After the short program, the group proceeded to the Ground Breaking Ceremony in front of the old Rodriguez Building which used to house the Marikina Science High School until it transferred to Calumpang Elementary School compound. The midrise school building shall be built where the old Rodriguez building stands. Its use shall be governed by a USUFRUCT AGREEMENT between MPC and DepEd.
Also present in the ceremony were Mr. Juanito H. Gayola, Principal of Marikina Science High school, DepEd undersecretaries, DPWH personnel, and MPC College Officials.
