Marikina Polytechnic College President Rene M. Colocar has unveiled a 10-point strategic priority for 2027 in preparation for the college’s transformation to National TVET University in the Philippines, with emphasis on academic quality, research, digital transformation and institutional accountability. The adoption of this strategic agenda was made during the Tan-Aw 2026 on October 28, 2026, which is the State of the College Address in relation to the final year of the Five-Year Development Plan for 2022-2027.

“Our aspiration to become a National TVET University cannot be fulfilled through a change of name alone. We must earn that future through credible programs, useful research, dependable systems, capable people, meaningful partnerships, and public trust,” Pres. Colocar said.

The agenda begins with National TVET University Transformation, which calls for strengthening the legal, academic, research, staffing, infrastructure and financial foundations needed to support the institution’s planned transition. Academic Excellence focuses on addressing program compliance gaps, modernizing curricula, strengthening outcomes-based teaching and improving student retention, completion and professional readiness.

“The true test of progress is whether more students learn well, remain enrolled, complete their programs, and find meaningful work,” Pres. Colocar shared.

The third priority, Modern Laboratories, aims to ensure that technical facilities are equipped with functional equipment, safe learning environments and reliable maintenance to support practical skills development. Under Smart Campus and Digital Transformation, MPC plans to integrate priority information systems, strengthen data management and cybersecurity, improve business continuity and responsibly adopt artificial intelligence to enhance institutional services.

People and PRIME-HRM focuses on competency development, technical certifications, merit-based career progression and succession planning to strengthen the College’s workforce. For Research and Innovation, the College aims to improve research quality, reinforce ethical standards and intellectual property protection, and translate research outputs into practical solutions for industries and communities.

The seventh priority, Industry and Lifelong Learning, seeks to expand industry partnerships, hands-on training and employment pathways, including international opportunities developed with TAU Corporation and the ETHOS Cooperative Union in Japan. Student Success and Inclusion prioritizes early academic support, mental wellness, insurance protection, career preparation, student leadership and accessible services.

A Sustainable and Resilient Campus covers preventive maintenance, safety inspections, drainage and utilities, resource efficiency, accessibility and emergency preparedness. Completing the agenda is Good Governance and Financial Sustainability, which links institutional plans to budgets, procurement to intended outcomes, and office responsibilities to measurable results.

He also acknowledged outstanding challenges in student retention and completion, research utilization, digital systems, project implementation and campus maintenance. On financial stewardship, he underscored the responsibility to ensure that public resources produce tangible benefits.

“These ten priorities should not remain as separate promises. Together, they form one college-wide agenda. Each priority must have a responsible office, an appropriate funding basis, and a clear measure of success. To our Board of Trustees and institutional partners, thank you for your trust. To our faculty and non-teaching personnel, thank you for giving these achievements meaning through your daily work. To our students and their families, thank you for reminding us whom our service is for. Sa bawat guro, kawani, mag-aaral, at katuwang ng MPC, ang ating pangako ay hindi matatapos sa isang talumpati. Makikita ito sa kalidad ng ating pagtuturo, sa katapatan ng ating pamamahala, at sa mga oportunidad na maibibigay natin sa susunod na salinlahi,” President Colocar concluded his Address.
