MARIKINA CITY — Camaraderie and sportsmanship took center court as Marikina Polytechnic College hosted the 1st MSAT MIST MPC Alumni Basketball League on November 8. The event brought together ten alumni teams, including MPCIANS 2017, Griffin, MPC Alumni 2007, MIST Batch 1989, MPC Ballers 2012, MPC Reinforce, MPC Golden Stage United, MPC Drafting 2005, MPC Hoopers, and MPC Contra Actors. 

Five games saw ten competing teams eyeing to become the 1st champions of the league. Batch 2017 BIT Automotive claimed victory over the Griffins, with a score 79–62 in a high-energy opener, followed by the MPC Alumni 2007 outpacing MIST Batch 1989, 76–45. The momentum continued with the MPC Ballers 2012 securing a win against MPC Reinforce, 60–42. The fourth game saw MPC Golden Stage United prevailing over MPC Drafting 2005, 83–65. Closing the event were the MPC Hoopers edging over MPC Contra Actors, 80–66.

before the matchups started, Director of Alumni Relations Office Dr. Vilma Sugay shared that the basketball league is not about scoring or winning, but a celebration of friendship, cooperation, camaraderie, and unity. She added, “Sa bawat laro, ipinapakita natin ang ating pagiging isang pamilyang alumni–magkakaibigan, magkakampi, at mga anak ng iisang alma mater.” (In every game, we are able to show our being family as alumni — friends, allies, and offspring of one Alma Mater.)

Mr. Johnnie Jorquin, Commissioner of MPC Alumni Athletics Association, reminded the participants of the significance of values and fair competition, stating, “The journey and the best effort, ‘yun ang pinaka-importante. I also want to emphasize sportsmanship. I want you all to play fairly as opponents at the same time as teammates.”

The league showcased not only the players’ skills through the shared love of basketball, but also served as a venue to celebrate unity among generations of alumni, reinforcing the College’s efforts to strengthen connection within its community through sports and teamwork.
