Possible collaborations on the use of natural textile fibers and the application
L👀K!
The DOST-PTRI met with the faculty and staff of the Marikina Polytechnic College – Footwear Innovation Technology Laboratory (MPC-FIT) to discuss possible collaborations on the use of natural textile fibers and the application of nonwovens in footwear.
The team also had a tour around the Institute’s facilities that includes the TELA Gallery Textile Design and Innovation Hub, Innovation for Yarns and Textiles (ICYT), and Textile Product Development Center (TPDC) to further appreciate its technologies and services.
One of the DOST-PTRI’s R&D programs is the Shoes and Footwear Accessories R&D on Textile-based Omnibus Solutions for the Philippine Shoe Industry (SAFATOS) Program. It seeks to tackle and address the needs of the Philippine footwear industry.
Through this program, textile-based solutions will be developed for the current roadblocks in the local footwear value chain such as unavailability of competitive raw materials, standardization of footwear manufacturing and design, technical material development, and antiquated technologies for product development.
The program will kickstart and augment current efforts to provide, enable, create, and utilize products and innovations for the footwear industry.
